after deciding to pack it all in on the 1st of november last year, & move to bcn, spain from jhb, south africa, it feels incredibly good to be writing my inaugural post about my countdown. on counting down the days til the early morning sun first touches my skin from my new home.
on that date, i traded the idea to get a tattoo, with the resolve to do something about why i wanted a particular word permanently inked into my skin. wanderlust & everything that those letters represent, have left whispers in my daydreams and haunted my plans for the future & i wanted the tiny cursive script to tickle my skin as well. running down my wrist, along my veins. but actions do speak louder than words & so whether you call it fernweh (german) or dolor de lejos (spanish), the love of travel has inspired me to leave behind my glamorous job, beautiful family & friends, country of birth & all the things that make up a happy, comfortable life. for the next chapter in my adventure. in barcelona. t-17 today.

today, the sun is trying to mop up the wet and grey. it’s not really getting anywhere so i’ve decided to spend the rest of the day in a coffeeshop, nursing a very small cafe con leche. it’s the perfect kind of day to carry around the cloud that’s been following me since yesterday. when i got my airstash. when i was finally supposed to introduce lulu, my camera, to pepe, my ipad. quick aside… i call my tablet pepe because it is a spanish nickname for boys named jose and i traded my faithful 13 inch macbook pro for this little machine to make my life more convenient for blogging from my new home in catalunya. instead it breaks my heart almost every other day. just like the spanish boys seem to do to their women here. back to the airstash. this little gadget is a wireless flash drive or memory card reader that was supposed to allow lulu and pepe to talk. you see pepe does not have a usb port. no usb port means no communication without wifi. he doesn’t have flash either. and cannot download any files except through itunes. everyday, i find out new things that pepe cannot do. but that’s a conversation for another post. and so the airstash, even though pricey, seemed like the perfect matchmaker. problem is, i have to upgrade pepe to make him compatible with the airstash. but i don’t have my old mac to sync with to upgrade him. which means that when i sync pepe with a new mac or pc, i might lose my itunes library. this possibility is equivalent to teaching your lover a new language only to lose your mother tongue in the process. yes. this is how passionate i am about my music collection. so now, lulu might not get her prince and the grand plans i had for my blog might die as well. not a very disney weekend for me here in barcelona.

lulu & pepe
just arrived home after taking lulu to fnac tech clinic for an upgrade to ios 4.3.2. it cost me 19€ & took under two hours. (i used the time for some retail therapy - sun hat, bag, and a much needed bikini). airstash is working. i've also installed the airstash+ app. my music library is intact. my apps are still there. seems lulu got her prince after all. & this blog will get its fairytale ending as well.

my ticket to watch tricky last night. first time. i’ve been a fan for years. it was so dark on stage you could only catch flashes of him when the lights pulsed. he was terrifyingly sexy, mesmerising. his voice, and the way he rocked & twisted his torso with his back to us. i’m glad he played some of his older best work. & loved that he let his audience dance on the stage with him then walked through the crowd at the end instead of exiting backstage. it was such an intimate space. i wanted to connect with his music more

please wear a pair of black framed glasses with the lenses pushed out unless they’re prescription of course. why? yeah, it’s partly symbolic of what a psychic recently told me would unfold in my life… ‘that certain events would lead me to shift my focus, and see things in a whole new way’. but mostly it will make for a pretty picture. & who doesn’t like a pretty picture?
please let me know if you can make it. and numbers. gracias
